Boerne-Champion jumped out to a 14-3 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Their 45-20 trouncing of Tivy (1-6, 1-1) improved Bourne-Champion to 6-1, 2-0 in District League play.
With the score 7-3, B-C’s Caleb Smith scored from 4 yards out with about a minute left in the first, and Will Wallace added the PAT. After the Antlers closed to within 14-10 early in the second, on the next possession, Alex Rodriguez ran through and around Antlers defenders to set up a 30-yard field goal by Wallace.
With 4 minutes left in the half, after a 4th-down conversion, Karson Kaiser completed a 27-yard bomb to Ryan Brandon to go up 24-10. An Antlers field goal put it at 24-13 at the half.
Tivy scored on their first possession of the second half to inch to 24-20, but the Chargers padded the lead on a 2-yard run by Kaiser midway through the third. Kaiser made it a runaway with a minute left in the quarter on a 6-yard run. Wallace’s PAT made it 38-20.
Cole Rija added a 3-yard score with 4 minutes left in the game, and Wallace kicked another one through the uprights for a final of 45-20.
The Chargers' defense forced the Antlers to opt for a dump-off strategy, as their junior quarterback Jacob Layton completed 13 of 19 for 38 yards. His longest completion was 12 yards to junior Lake Audrain. Their only long pass was on a half-back option.
