Boerne cruises to 3 straight wins at Corpus Christi ISD basketball tourney

The Corpus Christi ISD boys basketball tournament continued on Friday and Saturday, with Boerne picking up three wins to improve to 6-2 on the young season.

Boerne beats Pioneer 51-31

Boerne had a great night from junior Trevor Agarwal, who went 6-for-14 shooting with a team high 17 points in the 20-point win for the Greyhounds. He had three three-pointers, four rebounds, three assists and five steals.

Fellow junior Koen Wolff was the only other Greyhound to hit double figures with 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting. He also had three rebounds, three steals and an assist. Senior Devin Styles had nine points and was perfect from the free throw line going 5-for-5. He had four rebounds and an assist, as well.

Junior Jeffrey Brown was the team’s top player on the glass with six rebounds, as well as five points, an assist, a block and a steal. Junior Barrett Pape had seven points, four rebounds, four assists, four steals and a block.

Neither team shot particularly off the charts, with Boerne outshooting Pioneer 40% to 35%, but the clear advantage for the Greyhounds was in the rebounding department with Boerne crashing the boards 30 times compared to 17 rebounds for Pioneer. Boerne also had 15 assists compared to nine for Pioneer.

Boerne defeats Corpus Christi King 56-33

The Greyhounds spread the ball around nicely with a 56-33 win over King in the second game of the Friday tournament games, with four Boerne players posting double-digit scoring numbers led by Devin Styles with 14 points.

Styles also had four steals, two rebounds and an assist in the win. Barrett Pape scored 12 points and posted eight rebounds.

Trevor Agarwal had 11 points, five rebounds, four steals and an assist. Koen Wolff put up 10 points, four boards, two assists and a steal. Jeffrey Brown also had a solid game filling the stat sheet with seven points, six boards, three assists and a steal.

Boerne knocks off Highland 67-44

On Dec. 4, the Greyhounds beat Highlands 67-44 in the Saturday matchup of the Corpus Christi ISD basketball tournament.

Devin Styles was the leader with 22 points on a great night shooting where he went 10-for-11 from the field. He also had six rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Barrett Pape had a double-double in the win, pointing 12 points and 10 boards including nine defensive rebounds. He also had five steals and a pair of assists.

Colton Hoegemeyer had 11 points, two rebounds, one assist and a steal. Agarwal had nine points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals. Braden Smith had eight points, a steal and an assist. Sam Waters added four points, four rebounds and a steal.

Boerne outshot Highlands in the win, shooting 54% compared to 33% for Highlands. There was a vast margin in the rebounding department, with Boerne racking up 33 boards compared to Highland’s 22 rebounds. Boerne had 17 assists compared to 10 for Highlands. The Greyhounds were also more defensively sound with 16 steals compared to nine Highlands steals.
