In last week’s 2021 UIL Texas Football State Championships - 2021 Football Conference 5A D2 tournament game, between the Boerne-Champion Chargers (9-3) and Liberty Hill Panthers, the game was won on the ground in dominating fashion, with Liberty Hill scoring early and often en route to a 51-14 victory.
Liberty Hill ran, ran again and ran some more, calling 71 rushing plays and only one pass (incomplete) as the Panthers gained 559 yards rushing for seven touchdowns, and had three players pop for more than 100 yards – sophomore Noah Long led with 243 yards on 26 carries.
After B-C went three and out, gaining only a yard, on the first possession of the game, Long scored for the Panthers less than two minutes in on a 72-yard sprint and by the time the first quarter had ended, it was 20-0 Panthers. B-C finally scored in the second quarter, but with a half-time score of 30-7, the Chargers saw the handwriting on the locker room chalk board.
They came out fighting for the second half and they never quit, but the fourth quarter started with a 37-7 deficit. The Chargers’ last hurrah was four minutes into the fourth, when down 44-7, they scored again to cut it to 44-13 on a 56-yard break through the line. He broke some tackles and cut left and right to the end zone. But that was it, and a final 2-yard run with three minutes left by the Panthers made it a final score of 51-14.
The Chargers finished the season at 9-3, and even with the lopsided loss, outscored their opponents this season by a margin of 393-275.
