The Boerne Greyhounds (9-2) put on an offensive spectacle in a 63-14 blowout win over the Miller Buccaneers (8-4) in the second round of the Conference 4A Division I state tournament.

The Buccaneers went up 7-0 early after getting all the way down to the 3-yard line on a game opening kickoff return, but the lead wouldn’t last long as the Greyhounds found themselves up 37-7 game at halftime. The fourth quarter was the coupe de grace for the Buccaneers, as the Greyhounds piled on 28 points to run away with the victory.

The rushing attack for Boerne was on full display with junior running back Riley Pechacek posting a big-game day, rushing 18 times for 165 yards and three touchdowns, including one from 53 yards out. He was also the team’s top receiver with four catches for 49 yards.

Senior quarterback Rashawn Galloway may have had struggles in the air with a couple of first quarter picks, but he was a star on the ground with three touchdowns on 12 carries for 95 yards. Galloway went 8 for 13 for 113 yards in the air, which included a pinpoint 36-yard pass to senior tight end Koby Hunter in the first quarter, who stiff-armed and blasted his way into the red zone. Hunter had two catches for 43 yards in the win.

Freshman Adam Hicks ran three times for 49 yards and a score that came on a swift, cutting 46-yard run. Senior Adrian Cuervo added a touchdown on a 29 yard day with six rushes. Senior Mason Muzquiz also had a touchdown.

Defensively, logging interceptions were Will Pearson, Camden Johnson, Tanner Lundy and Houston Hendrix. The Hendrix interception was strategically played as he managed to hop in front of a Buccaneer receiver and take it all the way to the end zone for a 50-yard return.

There were four fumble recoveries by the ‘Hounds, pounced on by Colby Brown, Koen Wolff, Cole Gentry and Pearson. Lundy also recorded a sack in the game.

It was the eighth win in a row for the Greyhounds. Boerne improved to 9-2 and has a big challenge ahead against 12-0 LBJ Austin at the Alamodome on Nov. 27 at noon for the Conference 6A, Division I regional playoff.
