The Boerne-Champion Chargers won their second game in a row and demolished the Lockhart Lions 64-14, to improve their record to 8-2 (4-2 in District League), and now hold a 342-195 scoring advantage over opponents this season.

The Lions fell to 2-8, and the game was really never in doubt, as the Chargers took a 29-7 lead in the first quarter and were up 57-7 at half-time, allowing both coaches to substitute freely in the second half.

The Chargers scored on their first possession on a 12-yard run by Ryan Brandon, and added a score midway through the quarter after a fumble recovery. Karson Kaiser completed a 25-yard pass to Austin Mixon for a 14-0 lead. After a failed onside kick attempt, Lockhart took over with good field position and scored on a 26-yard pass to finish off a short drive to make it 14-7. A 66-yard drive took only a couple of minutes and a 39-yard Kaiser-to-Mark Thompson TD pass made it 21-7, Chargers.

Taking over on downs with less than a minute to go in Lions territory, the Chargers made short work of the short field, and after a 20-yard run by Brandon brought the ball inside the 10, he finished it off with a TD burst. A 2-pt. conversion from Braedyn Krause to Jacob Caraway made it 29-7 at the end of the first quarter in favor of B-C.

The second quarter was all Chargers, starting with a blocked punt at the 32 with 2 minutes gone. B-C converted a fourth-down play, kept the ball and patiently marched down the short field, scoring on a 5-yard pass from Kaiser to Mixon and it was 36-7 after the PAT by Syler Carlsen.

Boerne tried and failed on another onside kick, but took the ball back on an interception by Ethan Panzardi at the Lockhart 42. A quick TD on a 35-yard run by Thompson brought the score to 43-7. Another interception, this time, by Jared Wingo, bought possession back to the chargers at the Lockhart 25, and with 4 minutes left in the half, Boerne-Champions scored again, from 11 yards out on a Kaiser-to-Griffin Jones pass and it was 50-7.

At this point, Lockhart was trying to delay the inevitable and went for a first down deep in their own territory and lost the ball on downs. Just before the half ended, B-C made it 57-7 on a Jordan Ballin –to-Colin Ryan TD pass of 9 yards.

Ballin closed out B-C’s scoring on a 2-yard run with 4 minutes left in the third quarter to make it 64-7 and Lockhart got one back with a nice drive and a short run with 9 minutes left in the game to make the final score 64-14.

Boerne-Champion takes on Mercedes (9-1) in the 2021 UIL Texas Football State Championships on Friday.
