Boerne-Champion girls kick off basketball season with 40-point win

The Boerne-Champion Charger girls tipped off on Nov. 8 and beat the Marshall Rams 70-30. 

The Chargers held a 16-9 lead at the quarter and increased that to 33-17 at the half. Boerne-Champion never allowed more than nine points in a quarter and held the Rams to 13 second-half points while putting 37 through the nets themselves.

The Chargers were led by senior Kristen Borgerding who scored 26 points on 11-16 from the field, and senior Khiara Flugence, with 17 on 8 of 15.

Other top scorers were: junior Madyson Marquard with 8, sophomore Adrianna Barriero with 7, senior Kendall Skipper with 6 and junior Addison Hankins with 4.

The Chargers hit 52 percent from the field, but were only  2 of 12 from three-point range and were 12-18 from the foul line. Hankins dished out five assists and Marquard had four. Borgerding’s six rebounds were tops on the team, though Skipper had four defensive boards and Hankins and Flugence had three apiece.

Defensively the team had 16 steals, led by Barreiro, senior Emily Plank and Flugence who each had four.
