During the first quarter of 2026, Town and Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center emerged as the largest nursing facility in Kendall County, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.
The center maintained 126 beds, which is 37 more than the Kendall County average reported for the same period. Town and Country supported an average of 90.8 residents daily in that timeframe.
The CMS assigned Town and Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center an overall rating of 3 out of 5, outperforming the Texas nursing home average of 2.7.
For the quarter, Cibolo Creek was recognized as the second largest nursing facility in the county with 120 beds, while Riverview Nursing & Rehabilitation ranked third at 96 beds.
By the first quarter of 2026, Town and Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center faced two fines amounting to $150,922 and received two penalties.
Kendall County, Texas, had two public nursing homes in total.
According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the population of older adults in the U.S. continues to rise as the number of younger residents declines. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The nation’s older population has surged over the past 100 years, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 study found that nearly half of this age group—about 28 million—may require long-term services and support, with over one-third expected to need nursing facility care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
