University of Texas, San Antonio recently issued the following announcement.
Landmarks, monuments and businesses throughout the city will display orange lights next week to acknowledge the remarkable achievements of UTSA Football and rally the city around the Roadrunners as they prepare for the Ryan Conference USA Championship Game.
The City of San Antonio, Centro San Antonio and UTSA are encouraging local leaders and business owners to “Light the City Orange” starting on the evening of Wednesday, December 1, through the evening of Saturday, December 4.
Several San Antonio businesses and institutions have already committed to supporting the Roadrunners with orange light displays, including Centro San Antonio, the Rotary Ice Rink at Travis Park, Frost Tower, the University Health Robert B. Green Campus, Weston Centre, Legoland Rivercenter, Office Source and the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
Local businesses can share photos of their “Light the City Orange” displays on social media using the hashtags #UTSA and #LetsGo210.
UTSA notched the Conference USA West Division title with a nail-biting but jubilant 34-31 victory over UAB on Saturday, November 20. With the win, UTSA earned the right to host the Conference USA Championship Game at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 3, at the Alamodome. The Roadrunners will play either Western Kentucky or Marshall for the conference crown.
A conference championship would be the cherry on top of an already incredible 2021 campaign in which UTSA became nationally ranked in the College Football Playoff, AP and Coaches polls for the first time in program history. The university also announced this fall that it would be making a momentous move to the American Athletic Conference as early as 2023 and that head coach Jeff Traylor’s contract would be extended through 2031.
