Alamo Colleges have unveiled a program to benefit both students and local employers.
Starting in January, local businesses from the area can hire students who are enrolled in the work-study program at Alamo Colleges. Under this program, local small businesses can hire students and only be obligated to pay 25% of the wages for the student; large businesses will be responsible for 50% of the wages. Alamo Colleges will pay the balance.
“Our students eligible for the federal work-study program can now earn-and-learn in the private sector through relevant work experiences," Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores said. "Students can enrich their academic knowledge, gain real-world experience and improve their job prospects after graduation. Employers gain a part-time employee with supplemented wages and play a significant role in the education of aspiring professionals."
The program is expected to help both employers and employees, especially in the midst of the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Businesses that want to participate in the program will have to attend a webinar, where they will be presented with information about the program. Webinar times are listed here.
