CITY OF HELOTES: Helotes EDC Welcomes New Board Members

Texas

City of Helotes issued the following announcement on Nov. 20

Melody Pope Cooper of Helotes is President and Co-owner of Pope’s Cleaners. This family-owned business has been serving customers in the San Antonio area for over eighty years. They have two locations, and one Is located in Helotes at 12682 F.M. 1560 N, Ste. 104 next door to City Hall. She and her husband, John, have operated the family business together since May 2009. The expertise in the dry cleaning industry runs deep for this team—John has over 40 years of experience to compliment that of the Cooper family.

“The EDC was instrumental in keeping me informed of grants that were available to small businesses. Dry cleaning is considered an essential business but white-collar workers shifting to work from home schedules has hurt our business dramatically. The EDC’s guidance and information led me to acquire three grants! If I did not have this outreach, then I would have had to close the doors of my business in Helotes and this would have been devasting after more than eighty years of my grandfather and father’s hard work to keep the family legacy going. So, as a show of gratitude to all the EDC has done for me, I look forward to serving on the Board,” explained Cooper.

Cooper and her husband have two adult children, a daughter who is a San Antonio 911 dispatcher and a son who is the fourth generation working at the family business. A 20+ year Helotian, Cooper enjoys being outside, reading or watching the wildlife in her yard. She has spotted roadrunners, foxes, squirrels, and an occasional deer. The family has three dogs, two cats, and ten wild bird feeders.

Mrs. Cooper currently serves on the Helotes Area Chamber of Commerce and supports the Helotes Festival Association as a sponsorship coordinator. Her first-hand knowledge and business leadership experience will be an asset to the Helotes Economic Development Corporate (EDC) Board of Directors.

Gregory Hayden of Helotes is a Master Plumber with Alamo Preferred Plumbing located in Helotes at 10926 Hunters Way. The business specializes in hydrostatic testing and leak detection, offering both residential and commercial services. They have been providing professional plumbing services in the San Antonio area since 1989.

“I chose to serve on the Helotes EDC Board to help serve our beautiful community. I am an advocate of small-town shops and businesses and I would love to see more open in the Helotes area. I am honored to serve on the EDC Board to let my voice be heard on new development in our area,” shared Hayden.

Mr. Hayden and his wife have three children and two dogs. When he is not working, you will find him enjoying the outdoors, camping, hunting, and fishing. “We decided to make Helotes our hometown because we love the small-town feel of country living.”

Hayden’s professional experience coupled with his desire to see more small businesses brought to the City of Helotes will be beneficial as he begins his new appointment to the Helotes Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Board of Directors.
