The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Water and Disposal Loan and Grant Program recently awarded $7.78 million in federal loans between the East Central and the Green Valley special utility districts (SUD) for infrastructure improvements.
East Central SUD is set to receive a $4.94 million loan, which will be used to upgrade water distribution lines supplying the parts of Bexar, Wilson and Guadalupe counties, according to Rep. Henry Cuellar (R-Texas).
The Green Valley SUD will receive a $2.94 million loan to assist with the construction costs of two elevated storage tanks at the SUD’s plants, according to the release. Each tank will hold 1 million gallons, and the improvements are expected to assist in serving approximately 26,000 customers in Bexar, Guadalupe and Comal counties.
“This investment will strengthen local economies, improve infrastructure, and enhance public health, Cuellar said. “As a senior member of the Agricultural Subcommittee on the Appropriations, I will continue to fund programs that build stronger, more sustainable communities in Rural America.’
