Running unopposed, state Rep. Andrew Murr has won the Republican primary for re-election to the District 53 seat in the Texas House of Representatives.

In a Facebook post, Murr thanked his friends and family.

"Thank you to friends, family, and most of all, the voters, for your continued support of my efforts to be your voice in the Texas House of Representatives," Murr wrote. "I look forward to continuing to stand for the values the Hill Country, South Texas and West Texas hold dear."

Murr, who received 28,256 votes in the March 3 primary, will face Democrat Joe Herrera in the November general election. Herrera received 6,461 votes.

Murr was first elected in 2014 to the district that includes 12 counties.
